Tuesday Week 1

During Class:

We separated into groups, I was apart of group C and we had a range of posters that we critiqued and shared with the class with regards to Ihi and Wehi. The Mac Donalds poster below about obesity was the strongest example.

Definitions:
- Ihi: An individual’s essential force, charisma, power or charm

- Wehi: The emotional response on the part of the viewer

Note: Often can be the same thing!

Notes/discussion about this particular poster during class:

- Ihi: Funny, Ironic, Disturbing.

- Wehi: Funny at the start, then disturbing, shocking and worrying as the message of the poster sank in (that people like this boy are obese because of fast food).

- Topic relates to consumerism, fast food and obesity.

- The choice of the word little in the text i thought was funny and ironic, as the main figure in this poster is fat/large and has obviously had a bit to much "M" in him. Emplies everyone one consumes Mac Donalds and that too much consuming leads to obesity like this figure.

- The M has a smile or a smirk added to it almost like a taunt, its happy but the figure who has consumed too much of it isnt.

- Great cropping of the image, makes the main figure look bigger as he doesnt fit in the frame and also shows a figure in the top right corner who is fit and about to dive into the water/pool.This provides great contrast, a fit person being active whilst the unhealthy/unfit person is a by-stander/observer.

- The colour of the blue sky makes the fit person stand out more aswell as trying to add a lively/happy feel to the poster as appose to if the sky was grey it would emphasis sadness.
