Ihi Wehi Poster Examples:
Here are three examples of posters I found whilst walking in Wellington.
- The task is to recreate the exercise done in class by discussing Ihi and Wehi relating to the features in the posters.
- Ihi: Rough, inappropriate, cheeky, colourful, different
- Wehi: made me feel confused with what the poster is trying to communicate. What is this event about? also a little uncomfortable. A bit cheeky with the nudity woman, perhaps on a budget or a youthful group judging by the rough hand-drawn/scanned in feel with cut out text.
- Turns out they are a young DIY rock and roll band from Australia, hence the inappropriate/rebellious style of the poster.
- Some of the drawings seem unrelated to a rock band like the ice age drawings of the mammoth, squirrel and sloth but could suggest the band and its music is bit random.
- I think the whole feel and way the poster is done reflects the group, a mish mash of different, colourful, random ideas. A rough DIY poster for a rough DIY rock band.
- I think the nudity of woman in this image is relative to the band being all males, as a female would not draw and promote this nudity like this.
- Ihi: Bold, confronting, intimidating, professional
- Wehi: My initial response was towards this poster was looks cool, looks modern, fresh, directed at people my age. Feels relatable with an american black culture or rap/hip hop feel about especially when looking at the figures.
- Turns out that they are a neo soul, alternative R&B group from Los Angeles, California.
- When compared to the Kitchens Floor poster this poster looks far better and more professional. Looks as if a designer has actually done it, using good typeface, nice kerning and spacing of type, professional photo of the group and using the 2/3, 1/3 rule with composition.
- I think they have used just enough of a hint so that the viewer can figure out what this is about. The only imagery they have used is a waist up photo of the group. How they are dressed and their body positions suggest they are a hip hop group. Skin colour also comes into play as it more suggestive towards american hip hop culture as oppose to a genre such as country or pop music. if they were all standing straight with no facial expressions and hands by their sides it would be a lot harder to tell what kind of music they perform.
- Ihi: Dark, mysterious, scary, evil
- Wehi: Made me feel uncomfortable and edgy as i don't know what or who this is. A mysterious male figure who's face is shrouded by shadow.
- Obviously this poster is about Dr. Jekyil and Mister Hyde. using red and black colours make me think of death and danger also mystery as the black acts as shadow to cover the face.
- Clear split between being human an something else, this is done just right having enough of the human facia features and distinguished silhouette aswell as the red highlighting on top on the left hand side of the silhouette. Two different things/personalities; human and non human.
